Anaerobic Digestion

The anaerobic digestion process introduces eco-friendly bacteria to break down organic matter—including animal manure, wastewater biosolids, and food wastes — in the absence of oxygen. The process efficiently produces environmentally friendly biogas and biofertilizer that generate green energy and agricultural supplements while mitigating the impact of the various bio-wastes feedstocks.

Aquaculture

Aquaculture, also known as aquafarming, is the farming of fish and other aquatic animals as well as aquatic plants, algae, and other organisms in controlled conditions, and can be contrasted with commercial fishing, which is the harvesting of wild fish.

The environmentally-friendly process effectively generates clean food sources and green business opportunities for local communities, benefiting the environment while generating sustainable jobs, industries, and interrelated economies.

Aquaponics

Aquaponics combines AQUACULTURE – growing fish and other aquatic animals with HYDROPONICS – growing plants without soil in a symbiotic combination in which plants are nourished by the waste of aquatic animals. This elegant, circular eco-system generates expanding opportunities for green business enterprise, job training and education, and year-round food production throughout local economies.

Biochar

Biochar is a carbon co-product produced by a process known as biomass PYROLYSIS. Biochar is used as a soil amendment that increases water retention and crop yields while decreasing the need for use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Biochar is a stable solid that is rich in carbon with the ability to enrich the soil for generations. When produced through biomass pyrolysis, biochar creates additional “green” benefits by sequestering carbon that would otherwise have been released into the atmosphere.

Biomass

Biomass is organic material that comes from living organisms, typically plants. Biomass can be allowed to decompose and harnessed to create methane gas that is captured and converted for use as an environmentally friendly, renewable fuel.

Bridge/Transition Energy

Energy transition refers to the global energy sector shift from fossil-based systems of energy production and consumption — to renewable energy sources including wind, solar, and natural gas.

Carbon Sequestration

Carbon sequestration or carbon dioxide removal is the long-term removal, capture, or sequestration of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to slow or reverse atmospheric CO2 pollution and mitigate or reverse global warming.

The process removes carbon-based toxins from the air and can be beneficial as a natural, eco-friendly alternative to some fertilizers that can damage soil and water sources.

Geothermal Energy

When the earth cooled billions of years ago, large reservoirs of heat were trapped beneath the Earth’s crust. Geysers and volcanoes give evidence of the power of this heat. Where tunnels are created this energy resource can be channeled, the heat used, on a controlled scale, to convert water into steam, which in turn can provide heat or power a turbine to generate electricity.

Green Hydrogen

Green hydrogen is hydrogen-based fuel that is created using renewable energy rather than fossil fuels. It has the potential to provide clean power for manufacturing, transportation, and domestic energy uses — with the singular byproduct of water.

Green hydrogen is an increasingly important alternative to fossil fuels in the transition to low emissions fuels generated by renewable energy-produced water hydrolysis. When renewable electricity is produced, the excess can be used to run through tanks of water. This causes a process known as hydrolysis to occur, where water molecules are split into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen can then be captured and used in a variety of different applications.

Hydroponics

Hydroponics is a process for growing plants without soil in a symbiotic combination in which plants are nourished by the waste of aquatic animals. This elegant, circular eco-system generates expanding opportunities for green business enterprises, job training and education, and year-round food production throughout local economies.

Hydropower

Hydropower, also called hydroelectric power, harnesses the power of water in motion—such as water flowing over a waterfall—to generate electricity. Similar to the way wind power operates using turbines, hydroelectric power is produced by building turbines in moving water. The water spins the turbines which in turn generate electricity. This is typically achieved by building dams to create artificial waterfalls or directional channels in fast-moving rivers.

Liquid Natural Gas (LNG)

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas that has been cooled to a liquid state (liquefied), for shipping and storage. The volume of natural gas in its liquid state is about 600 times smaller than its volume in its gaseous state in a natural gas pipeline. This liquefaction process makes it possible to transport natural gas to locations and populations unreached by natural gas pipelines and to use natural gas as a transitional, lower emission, transitional transportation fuel.

Pyrolysis

Pyrolysis converts waste products – known as feedstock –  in high heat, oxygen-free environments into clean green electricity, syngas, liquid fuels, and other valuable products to achieve maximum economic and environmental benefits.

With its great flexibility in converting multiple types of waste product feedstock – including plastic from oceans, landfills, and waterways as well as biomass waste – into multiple forms of fuel and energy, pyrolysis offers dual benefits of reducing waste while also producing clean energy resources that can be used in domestic and industrial applications.

Renewable/Green Energy

Renewable energy, often referred to as GREEN ENERGY, comes from natural sources or processes that are constantly replenished. Renewable energy technologies enable us to create electricity, heat, and various fuels from renewable sources such as biomass, solar, wind, and hydropower.

Solar Power

Solar power draws energy from the sun that can be converted into thermal and electrical energy. By using arrays of photovoltaic cells to capture and convert the sun’s rays into electricity, light is transformed into usable energy.

Solar energy can either be used directly or fed to the grid to lessen the amount of fossil fuels needed to power a populated area.

Sustainable Energy

To be sustainable, an energy resource must be considered “maintainable” for the foreseeable future. It must continue to supply a business’s or society’s needs, but, in the process, the energy source must not run out or somehow become unusable.

Sustainable energies — including sun, solar, geothermal, hydro, and tidal — provide energy resources without expiring and/or depletion.

Wind Power

By building large turbines in traditionally windy areas, the energy produced by air movement can be converted into useful electricity. Depending on its size, an individual wind turbine can supplement a single home or business, while large-scale wind farms can power entire cities.

Like SOLAR ENERGY, wind energy can either be used directly or fed to the grid to lessen the amount of fossil fuels needed to power a populated area.
