POWERING THE WORLD FOR GOOD

EPIC ESG invites you to explore Talcahuano (“talkaˈwano”) on the sun-kissed shores of South Central Chile’s Pacific Coast. The Maritime Terminal at the Talcahuano is a leading-edge, medium-scale, 100% regional energy-bridge project located on the Bay of Concepción, Chile.

Engaging eco-friendly innovation and technologies the project will return natural gas to South Central Chile as an economical alternative to existing high carbon energy sources currently in use. The terminal project is the first stage of a multi-stage approach that will help restore Chile’s air and waters while building new agriculture, micro-business, and equitable economies as part of Chile’s commitment to becoming a leading nation with a carbon-neutral footprint by 2050.

EPIC ESG’s Clean Energy Chile GNLT offers stakeholders the opportunity to ignite environmental renewal for the region’s people, farmlands, mountains, businesses, forests, waterways, and skies — powering the world for good.

INNOVATION

The first phase establishes a clean energy footprint through new, carbon-neutral technologies designed to restore the bridge-energy use of natural gas for use throughout existing delivery systems across the region. Phase 1 brings a first-of-its-kind maritime terminal that will transition the region from high carbon footprint fuels to clean, affordable natural gas.

Subsequent stages are designed to support both existing and future green technologies — including wind and solar, green hydrogen as well as regional green economies and businesses as part a commitment to become a world-leading, carbon-neutral nation by 2050.

INVESTMENT

Often described as a “European democracy accidentally located in South America,” the Republic of Chile is rated one of the world’s top destinations for investment and recognized as a haven for high-performing assets located in safe, stable jurisdictions. EPIC ESG investment is actually an array of opportunities for stakeholders from expertise and wisdom to resources and working alongside on exemplary social, educational, workforce, and humanitarian projects every EPIC ESG stakeholder can experience the multiplied power of a values-driven investment.

Chile’s legal and regulatory basis affords investors rights and protections equal to, and in many cases more beneficial than the US and the EU. Its investor-friendly government, population under 20 million, and border resources of more than half of the planet’s copper reserves and 50% of the global lithium supply provide a strategic resource buffer against currency risk.

As economic centers shift from the Atlantic Basin to the Pacific Rim, Chile is uniquely positioned as the gateway for not only its own export basis as well as Argentina’s Pacific exit is poised for accelerated growth over the coming decades.

IMPACT

The Phase l project footprint will launch the restoration of Chilean citizens to economic dignity alongside the rejuvenation of their air, land, and water resources of the once pristine region.

The Talcahuano Project will help begin an environmental reversion while creating energy in the regional marketplace that drastically reduces the cost of heating, electricity and all commercial activity.

While the EPIC ESG Clean Energy Chile Project contributes to new environmental restoration and vibrant clean energy economy for residents and businesses in South Central Chile it will also further achieve Chile’s national initiative to achieve  carbon neutral goals by 2050 while achieving sustainable stewardship of environmental resources, new economies, and social equity.

Innovation

How is clean energy Chile GNLT innovative?

The project is the first carbon-neutral LNG Maritime Terminal in Chile. This epic first will lead the way as a model for the transition to sustainable energy, agriculture, economies, and environmental advances throughout the region, the nation, and the world.

What about LNG safety?

Liquid Natural Gas has been successfully managed for decades, successfully maintaining an excellent safety record in comparison with other petrochemical and refining plants, especially during the last 40 years.

Globally, LNG is governed by extremely rigorous safety standards established by developed markets in this industry, following existing norms in the US, Japan, Australia and Europe, with the result that this is one of the few industrial activities that maintain a very high safety level.

Terminal Marítimo GNL Talcahuano fully complies with the safety distances in respect to inhabited areas proposed by the SANDIA Report, the National Fire Protection Association (NFP-A59A) and the European Standard (EN-1473), being located at an optimal safety distance from population centers, that is, 4 km from the nearest settlement.

All maritime terminal installations will be inspected periodically to check for corrosion and examine the structural integrity. Likewise, maintenance and the replacement of equipment parts (e.g. pipes, gaskets, connectors and valves) will be carried out regularly. A cathodic protection system will be installed to prevent or minimize corrosion.

What if there is an earthquake or tsunami in Chile?

The project will fund the construction of a tsunami early warning system that is currently being developed by the Department of Geophysics at the University of Concepción for use as a preventive system in the face of a catastrophe such as an earthquake or tsunami, which could affect our maritime terminal installations.

The tsunami early warning system consists of a series of high frequency (HF) ocean radars, also used for coastal dynamics studies.
The radar system will be installed on the Biobío Region coast, generating radio waves that will travel 200 kilometers out to sea then bounce back, being captured by another system of receiving antennas.

The system will provide information in real time, with a coverage of 200 kilometers from the coast, giving an early warning to the authorities and to surrounding communities, all without charge as part of the Impact benefits of the project.

How does the project deliver the natural gas to the region?

The project includes the use of a subsea flexible gas pipeline with many environmental advantages. The technologically advanced pipeline does not suffer corrosion degradation, can be safely laid without unnecessary excavation or disturbance of the seabed and is secured on the seabed using concrete matrices.

The pipeline will be connected at one end to the high-pressure manifold located on the riser platform. From there it will be further connected to the natural gas discharge arms. At the opposite end, shore the submarine gas pipeline will pass through a micro-tunnel and connect to a land-based measurement unit before final connection with the natural gas distribution and transport network.

How does Clean Energy Chile GNLT measure performance?

Terminal Marítimo GNL Talcahuano is conscious of the fact that good practices in its production processes and continuous improvement are key elements in its adherence to efficient quality standards.

Quality implementation and continuous improvement plans are in place using a range of instrumentation to inform each project stage and ongoing performance alongside a tailored quality management system based on ISO norms oriented to customers.

Investment

Is Chile a safe and favorable project site?

Chile’s legal and regulatory basis affords stakeholders with rights and protections equal to, and in many cases more beneficial than US and EU nations.

Chile’s welcoming government and a population of under 20 million enjoy a strategic position with more than half of the planet’s copper reserves, as well as 50% of the global lithium supply, within its borders. This strategic position provides a resource buffer against currency risk with the country’s share of these two valuable metals underpinning the nation’s financial basis, a key asset for offshore investors.

Additionally, Chile’s economic and political stability alongside FTA status and trade agreements create an exceptionally favored stakeholder climate.

How will Clean Energy Chile GNLT benefit local economies?

In its first phase, the project will generate 1000 new indirect Chilean jobs. This job infusion will ripple throughout an array of business and support industries while raising the quality of life for citizens.

Future phases are designed for a complementary array of interconnected agricultural, aquaponic, hydroponic, and green energy innovations and related industries and support businesses.

Additionally, the project will provide energy support for existing wind, solar projects as well as agriculture, aquaponics, and education opportunities throughout the region.

Impact

Where in Chile is Talcahuano?

Project location is in Talcahuano, Bay of Concepcion on the western coast of South Central Chile.

Studies conducted by maritime specialists have identified the Isla de los Reyes area of the Bay of Concepción in Talcahuano Commune, Concepción Province as the optimal project location..

Approximately 4 kilometers from the Isla de los Reyes coastline, and only 120 meters from existing gas pipelines systems, current coastal development plans designate the project sector as a port area without any concessions that interfere with its occupation.

The site is in an exceptional location, as the Bay of Concepción is generally calm, being protected from the prevailing winds and heavy seas, principally by Quiriquina Island to the north.

How does the project impact the ocean?

The location of Terminal Marítimo GNL Talcahuano is far from the entry routes to other terminals in the Bay of Concepción, as well as from fishing routes, so that it does not interfere with current sea traffic.

The mooring facilities are designed to withstand climatic conditions that are far more extreme than those normally experienced in these latitudes, with highly developed anti-seismic and tsunami-resistant construction.

What about the environment and sustainable development?

Clean Energy Chile GNLTis firmly committed to the environment and to sustainable development in the Biobío Region. The project is grounded in environmental standards committed first to the health and safety of the population, so as to deliver natural gas safely to our region, promoting the use of a cleaner and more efficient fuel with lower levels of CO2, NOx, SOx and particulate material.

Globally, LNG is governed by extremely rigorous safety standards established by developed markets in this industry, following existing norms in the US, Japan, Australia and Europe, with the result that this is one of the few industrial activities that maintain a very high safety level.

Terminal Marítimo GNL Talcahuano fully complies with the safety distances in respect to inhabited areas proposed by the SANDIA Report, the National Fire Protection Association (NFP-A59A) and the European Standard (EN-1473), being located at an optimal safety distance from population centers, that is, 4 km from the nearest community.

Are there innovations for environmental impact?

Yes. Clean Energy Chile GLNT has incorporated cutting-edge technology in order to avoid environmental impact on the surrounding areas. In effect, our project does not involve the use of sea water for LNG regasification into natural gas, since it will use a fresh water-glycol regasification system heated with hot water from a natural gas boiler, without the need to take any water from the sea.

In this system, only 24m3 of water will be used, this quantity to be replaced only once every 5 years.

How is the project itself powered?

The recovery of natural gas from the boil-off gas (BOG) system that will be used to fuel the regasification and storage platform at the LNG terminal, thus avoiding the release of methane gas into the atmosphere as well as providing fuel for the processes on board the unit.c to the site and feedstock conditions.

How will Clean Energy Chile GNLT impact Chile's natural environment?

The project will be compensating any/all CO2 emissions produced during the operational stage through reforestation projects and the sustainable management of native trees in addition to the benefits of transition to lower carbon footprint energy sources that will begin the process of decreasing air and water pollution.

How might the project empower women in the region?

Women-owned businesses in seaweed harvesting and sales around the world are one of the many green energy enterprise opportunities available to these traditionally women-owned and operated micro-businesses that will prosper through the new green energy enterprise opportunities.

Women-owned micro-enterprises currently use wood-burning heat sources to dry seaweed harvested from the ocean – then package and sell the product around the globe.

The introduction of new, natural gas-fueled drying beds will infuse these businesses with new production and capacity — while speeding the drying process and directly reducing carbon emissions.

This is just one immediate example of empowerment for women in the region that will create ripple effects and equitable economies for generations to come.

Technology

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas that has been cooled to a liquid state (liquefied), at about -260° Fahrenheit, for shipping and storage. The volume of natural gas in its liquid state is about 600 times smaller than its volume in its gaseous state in a natural gas pipeline. This liquefaction process makes it possible to transport natural gas to locations and populations unreached by natural gas pipelines and to use natural gas as a transitional, lower emission, transitional transportation fuel.

Pyrolysis

Pyrolysis converts waste products – known as feedstock –  in high heat, oxygen-free environments into clean green electricity, syngas, liquid fuels, and other valuable products to achieve maximum economic and environmental benefits.

With its great flexibility in converting multiple types of waste product feedstock – including plastic from oceans, landfills, and waterways as well as biomass waste – into multiple forms of fuel and energy, pyrolysis offers dual benefits of reducing waste while also producing clean energy resources that can be used in domestic and industrial applications.

Renewable/ Green Energy

Renewable energy, often referred to as GREEN ENERGY, comes from natural sources or processes that are constantly replenished. Renewable energy technologies enable us to create electricity, heat, and various fuels from renewable sources such as biomass, solar, wind, and hydropower.

Sustainable Energy

To be sustainable, an energy resource must be considered “maintainable” for the foreseeable future. It must continue to supply a business’s or society’s needs, but, in the process, the energy source must not run out or somehow become unusable.

Sustainable energies — including sun, solar, geothermal, hydro, and tidal — provide energy resources without expiring and/or depletion.

Green Hydrogen

Green hydrogen is hydrogen-based fuel that is created using renewable energy rather than fossil fuels. It has the potential to provide clean power for manufacturing, transportation, and domestic energy uses — with the singular byproduct of water.

Green hydrogen is an increasingly important alternative to fossil fuels in the transition to low emissions fuels generated by renewable energy-produced water hydrolysis. When renewable electricity is produced, the excess can be used to run through tanks of water. This causes a process known as hydrolysis to occur, where water molecules are split into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen can then be captured and used in a variety of different applications.
